SONNY ACRES FARM

A Long Family Tradition

est. 1883

Sonny Acres Farm is a family owned and operated pumpkin farm located in West Chicago, IL, since 1883. First generation German immigrants Ferdinand and Anna Nagel homesteaded what was eventually to become the Sonny Acres farm. Back then it was known as the Oakwood Farm. They farmed 100 acres and erected a one-room home where they resided until they built the present farm house in 1895. This farm has grown from a small roadside stand to Chicago’s premiere pumpkin patch!

In 2019, two new families joined in the great Sonny Acres tradition and are making a big impact on the Sonny Acres story.

After spending more than 50 years visiting the farm with their parents, then their own children the Joyaux and Fontana families became the new owners.

They are the stewards of the farm and traditions that so many families have built here.

Sonny Acres Farm and its timeless fun is in good hands.

They’ve already improved most of the iconic features on the grounds, attractions and food choices, ATM’s, restroom facilities and more.

The new vision is to continually improve the attractions you’ve come to love so that you and your family can continue the traditions you’ve built with us for so long, and make them a little bigger, a little better, and all the more memorable.

During the months of September and October the celebration of harvest time spreads across the farm. Decorated with mountainous piles of pumpkins and a variety of specialty squash and gourds, Sonny Acres offers a fall display not often seen at any ordinary pumpkin patch. Visitors who explore the grounds will discover a Farm Fresh Market, Spook Shed, Halloween Costume & Gift Shop, carnival rides, food and all sorts of fall displays and attractions.

A visit to the Farm Fresh Market barn will find a wide assortment of gourds, squashes, Indian corn and other farm stand items unique to the fall season. Apple lovers will be delighted to find crispy Michigan apples in their favorite varieties. Upstairs in the barn loft visitors will discover a Halloween and Thanksgiving decorations.

The young at heart who plan on trick-or-treating will find the Halloween Costumes & Gift Shop is the place to visit. Here we offer a wide assortment of ghostly masks, wigs, costumes and other novelties for Halloween fun.

A day at the farm can be a fun but tiring affair, to that end we offer numerous food stands with a wide variety of choices for guests to recharge. Don’t forget to get a cup of warm (or chilled) apple cider. And of course, nothing tops the day off better than a funnel cake, apple cider doughnut or Taffy Apple.

Making pumpkin time the best time is what Sonny Acres is all about.
